Robby Miller Chosen as 2015 Mother Seton Recipient

The STA Home & School Association has selected Mr. C.R. "Robby" Miller, Jr. as the 2015 recipient of the "Mother Seton Award."  This award was created to honor those individuals whose volunteer service and dedication to home, school, and church has been exemplary.  Mother Seton recipients have strong Catholic values, and a selfless dedication to Catholic education.

"Robby is a true proponent of Catholic education and has volunteered tirelessly and consistently for thirty years," said STA Principal Jose Becerra. "He is a strong Christian dedicated to his faith and an exemplary father and family man. The thing that sets Robby apart are the things he does behind the scenes that no one ever knows about. It's not about getting credit or doing things that everyone can see. He is always there and never says no."

Robby is a familiar face at nearly every event at STA, especially on the sidelines of football games, where he has served as Statistician for several years. He was also an integral part of the Capital Campaign Committee. Robby has volunteered with the youth of our Catholic schools since he graduated from college in 1985, when he began coaching football at Holy Ghost. He has continued being an avid supporter of athletics at both HGS and STA.  He is a member of Holy Ghost Church, where he has served on the Fair Committee, as well as Major Gift Co-Chair of their Campaign 100. He is a current member of the Finance Council at both Holy Ghost Church and at STA. He has also been a supporter and volunteer with the Drama Clubs of both schools.

Robby is very involved with Southeastern Louisiana University's Lion Athletics Association, SLU Former Football Players Association, and serves on the SLU President's Community Advisory Committee. He is a former member of the SLU Alumni Association Board of Directors, as well as a recipient of their Distinguished Graduate Award.  Robby is currently Chairman of the Board of the Hammond Economic Development Board, and also has coached several teams for city and parish recreation leagues. He is also a former President of the Richard Murphy Hospice Foundation and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Disposable Heroes Project.  He was also on the Board of Directors for both Options and TARC.

Robby has been married to Donna Distefano Miller since 1987.  They have four children, all graduates of Holy Ghost School. Three have also graduated from STA.  Charles Robert, 24, is also a graduate of the University of Virginia.  Tony, 21, is a student at Southeastern Louisiana University, and Anna, 19, is a student at Spring Hill College.  Mason, 16, is a junior at STA.

"Robby is a man of strong integrity and pure ethics," commented STA Home & School President Lauren Sampey.  "He passionately serves in public and private matters, always stepping up to help those in need. He is always ready with a positive word, an encouraging pat on the back, and a contagious smile.  Robby Miller is an exemplary honoree for the Mother Seton Award."

The Diocese of Baton Rouge will honor all Mother Seton recipients at a luncheon on April 21, 2015.
