WILL HETZINGER NAMED STA STUDENT OF THE YEAR

Saint Thomas Aquinas Regional Catholic High School is pleased to announce the selection of William Hetzinger as their 2018 Student of the Year.

            Will is a senior and serves STA as Student Council Vice President. He is a member of Beta Club, National Honor Society, National Society of High School Scholars, Light Team, and Key Club. Will was selected as a delegate to Louisiana Boys State and was chosen as editor-in-chief of the STA yearbook. He is a member of STA’s Veritas ACT 30+ Club for his composite ACT score of 31. He maintains a rigorous academic course load, including numerous Advanced Placement, honors, and dual enrollment classes.

            Will is a varsity letterman in five sports: football, soccer, track, basketball, and tennis. He has served as co-captain for the football, basketball, and soccer teams. He was named as Louisiana’s First Team All-State Punter, as well as the Louisiana Sportswriters Association’s First Team Punter. He placed 3rd in the state in the javelin competition and was named Most Valuable Player in the region for Track.

            Will has received a nomination to West Point from Congressman Steve Scalise and recently signed a letter of intent to play football for the Army as their punter.

            The Students of the Year Awards Program is designed to recognize those outstanding students who have demonstrated excellent academic achievement, leadership ability, and citizenship. It is sponsored by the Louisiana State Superintendent through the State Department of Education and the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.

            Will is the son of Michelle and Mark Trapen of Hammond and David Hetzinger of Port Vincent.
